Associate Planner

The City of White Salmon is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Associate Planner to support current and long-range planning activities. This role involves reviewing development applications, interpreting zoning regulations, preparing reports, and engaging with the public, city officials, and local agencies.

Salary: $55,859 – $64,755 annually ($26.86 – $31.13/hr)

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Union Position

Work Environment: A combination of office and field work, including site visits. Occasional evening or weekend meetings may be required.

Core Responsibilities: This position supports the City’s planning and development efforts by providing informed and responsive customer service related to zoning, land use regulations, and permitting—both in person and through written and verbal communication. Key responsibilities include reviewing development applications for compliance with municipal codes, preparing staff reports and presentations, and presenting recommendations at public hearings and meetings. The role also involves assisting with updates to zoning and land use maps, creating informational materials, conducting research and data analysis, and supporting long-range planning efforts such as comprehensive plan updates. Collaboration with staff, applicants, legal counsel, and partner agencies is essential throughout the development review process. The position also contributes to the ongoing monitoring and improvement of local land use regulations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Geography, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant planning experience
  • Ability to pass a background check
