Keep Walkways Clear - Wet Leaves, Snow, and Ice Create Hidden Hazards

As we move more into Gorge winter conditions, sidewalks and driveways can become hazardous. Wet leaves can be as slippery as ice.

Why it Matters

Wet/frozen leaves hide uneven pavement, curbs, or icy patches.

Leaves clog gutters and storm drains, causing standing water that later freezes.

Regular maintenance and awareness are very important - consider creating a reminder on your calendar.

        Property Owner Checklist:
✅ Rake and remove leaves regularly from sidewalks, driveways, and steps.
✅ Keep gutters and storm drains clear to prevent pooling and freeze-thaw damage.
✅ Apply sand or ice-melt early when overnight temps drop at/near freezing.
✅ Trim low-hanging vegetation before storms or snow accumulation.
✅ Check that exterior lights are working - visibility helps prevent accidents.

Stay Safe, White Salmon!
Help keep our neighborhoods safe and walkable this season by clearing leaves, snow, and ice from your property’s walkways. Small steps can help prevent serious injuries.
