City Ends Emergency Proclamation 2025-02 for Local Emergency for Burdoin Fire; Recovery Work Continues

WHITE SALMON, Wash. — Aug. 15, 2025

The City of White Salmon has officially terminated the local emergency originally declared for the Burdoin Fire, restoring normal purchasing and contracting procedures while continuing long-term recovery and coordination efforts.

Mayor Marla Keethler signed the termination on Aug. 7, 2025, concluding Emergency Proclamation 2025-02 that was first issued on July 18 as the fire threatened city residents, property, and critical infrastructure. City officials said current conditions and operational assessments show the imminent threat has abated and no longer warrants extraordinary emergency powers.

Under the termination order, all emergency procurement and contracting authority tied to the proclamation ended on Aug. 7. Contracts properly executed under emergency powers remain valid; however, any additional work or change orders must follow the city’s standard competitive processes and approval thresholds.

City officials emphasize that ending the emergency does not halt recovery. Interagency coordination, mitigation projects, and reimbursement work will continue through normal authorities and processes.
